Archiving Policy

The International Journal of Disaster Risk Management (IJDRM) is committed to the long-term preservation, permanent accessibility, integrity, and discoverability of its scholarly content.

Digital Preservation Strategy

IJDRM employs a multi-layered digital preservation strategy designed to ensure continued access to published content in the event of technical failure, loss of access to the journal website, platform migration, or discontinuation of the journal.

Open Journal Systems (OJS) Preservation Infrastructure

IJDRM is published using Open Journal Systems (OJS), developed by the Public Knowledge Project (PKP). The OJS platform provides dedicated infrastructure and interoperability mechanisms for long-term digital preservation, including support for:

  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)
  • LOCKSS (Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)
  • CLOCKSS (Controlled Lots of Copies Keep Stuff Safe)

The journal uses the preservation functionality available through its OJS publishing infrastructure. Where preservation services are enabled and applicable, published content can be automatically prepared, transferred, harvested, and preserved through the relevant preservation network.

PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN)

IJDRM uses the PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN) infrastructure available for eligible journals published with OJS.

PKP PN is a distributed digital preservation service designed specifically for journals using Open Journal Systems. Once appropriately configured, preservation deposits are processed through the OJS/PKP infrastructure, providing an additional independent preservation layer for published journal content.

The system is designed to preserve journal content independently from the journal's primary web server and thereby support continued accessibility in the event of data loss, server failure, or journal discontinuation.

LOCKSS and CLOCKSS Compatibility

The OJS platform also provides technical support for LOCKSS and CLOCKSS preservation mechanisms through dedicated preservation manifests and archiving functionality.

These mechanisms enable compatible preservation networks to identify and harvest published journal content where the journal is registered, configured, or otherwise eligible for participation in the respective preservation service.

National Archiving

All issues of the journal are additionally deposited in the official Digital Repository of the National Library of Serbia.

This national-level repository provides an additional independent preservation and access mechanism for IJDRM content.

Publisher and Server Backups

In addition to external preservation mechanisms:

  • all published articles and associated files are stored on servers maintained by the publisher;
  • regular server and database backups are maintained;
  • off-site backup procedures are used to reduce the risk of data loss caused by technical failure, cyber incidents, or hardware damage;
  • final published articles remain available in full-text PDF format under the journal's applicable Creative Commons licence.

Author Self-Archiving

In accordance with IJDRM's open-access policy, authors are encouraged to preserve and disseminate their published work through appropriate:

  • institutional repositories;
  • university repositories;
  • subject repositories;
  • personal academic websites; and
  • scholarly research networks,

subject to the journal's licensing and copyright conditions.

Persistent Identification and Discoverability

IJDRM further supports long-term accessibility and persistent identification through:

  • Crossref DOI registration

  • Dimensions
  • ERIH PLUS
  • Sherpa Romeo
  • ROAD – Directory of Open Access Scholarly Resources
  • CEEOL
  • J-Gate
  • ICI Journals Master List
  • Scilit
  • OpenAlex
  • COBISS / National Library of Serbia

DOI registration through Crossref contributes to persistent identification and reliable linking to published articles even where journal infrastructure changes.

Preservation in the Event of Journal Discontinuation

If IJDRM ceases publication or its primary website becomes permanently unavailable, previously published scholarly content is intended to remain preserved and discoverable through the journal's distributed preservation infrastructure, including:

  • PKP Preservation Network (PKP PN), where deposited and preserved
  • participating LOCKSS/CLOCKSS preservation infrastructure, where applicable
  • Digital Repository of the National Library of Serbia
  • Crossref DOI metadata and persistent links
  • institutional and external repositories
  • international indexing and discovery services

This distributed preservation strategy reduces dependence on a single server, institution, or publishing platform and supports the journal's commitment to the permanent preservation of the scholarly record.
